To recap the award ceremony on 24 March 2020 in Saga Prefecture, Japan, the American Express Icon Award winner goes to Pioneering Japanese Chef Yoshihiro Murata. Chef Cho Hee-Sook is honoured as Asia’s Best Female Chef and Les Amis, Singapore receives The Gin Mare Art of Hospitality Award.
Voted for by the 300-plus members of the Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants Academy, master of kaiseki Chef Yoshihiro Murata from the three Michelin starred Kikunoi Honten in Kyoto, and two-star Kikunoi Roan and Kikunoi Akasaka in Kyoto and Tokyo respectively perceives this accolade as validation of his lifelong goal to share Japanese cuisine with the rest of the world. He aims to inspire younger Japanese chefs to share their passion, explore the diversity of locally-grown ingredients and educate others on authentic Japanese cuisine too.
Meanwhile, godmother of Korean cuisine and owner of one michelin starred Hansikgonggan restaurant in Seoul Chef Cho Hee-Sook is celebrated for her dedication, skills and creativity in setting new standards in gastronomic excellence as well as mentorship to other chefs. According to William Drew, Director of Content at Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants, she epitomises the spirit of this award with her lifelong commitment to advancing Korean cuisine through training, education and mentorship.
Finally, congratulations to the three Michelin-starred Les Amis for being the first restaurant in Singapore to earn the Gin Mare Art of Hospitality recognition in outstanding service and exceptional hospitality. Les Amis is noted as a fine-dining institution that maintains a constant presence on Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants list and is a worthy recipient. All operations are overseen by French Director of Culinary and Operations Sebastien Lepinoy who accepts the award sponsored by S.Pellegrino & Acqua Panna.
